The International Molecular Exchange Consortium (IMEx)

Mission statement

The IMEx consortium is a group of major public interaction data providers sharing curation effort and exchanging completed records on molecular interaction data, similar to successful global collaborations for protein and DNA sequences and for macromolecular structures.

News and future events

  • The next IMEx meeting is scheduled to be held in conjunction with the Interactome Networks conference 2007, August 29, 2007, in Hinxton, Cambridge, UK
  • An IMEx consortium meeting was held in conjunction with the PSI spring meeting April 27-28, 2007, in Lyon, France.

IMEx partners

IMEx defines three types of membership:

  • Archival: IMEx partner commits to producing relevant numbers of records curated to IMEx standard, and commits to importing all IMEx records provided by IMEx partners, to provide a full dataset of globally available IMEx data.
  • Topical: IMEx partner commits to producing relevant numbers of records curated to IMEx standard, but does not commit to importing all available IMEx records. This is suitable e.g. for a model organism database only interested in relevant IMEx records.
  • Observer: Prospective future IMEx consortium member.

IMEx partners:

The IMEx consortium is open to the participation of additional partners.

Exchange format

IMEx partners will exchange their data in the form of XML files, following the PSI MI standard for molecular interactions. The current version is 2.5.

Data Submission

IMEx partners strongly encourage and accept submissions of molecular interaction datasets to any of the IMEx partner databases. For detailed data deposition instructions please refer to the deposition page.

Curation synchronisation

IMEx partners aim to synchronise their curation and exchange the resulting records, thus avoiding redundant efforts. Currently the following journals are curated in work-sharing mode. Record exchange implementation is currently in progress.

Curation has been aligned to a common standard, as detailed in the curation manual of the individual databases and summarised in the joint curation manual.

Release Policy

All IMEx partners agree to release all suitable molecular interaction records created on or after 31/3/2006 by curation of direct submissions or publications in peer reviewed journals as IMEx records. “Suitable” means that curation and data exchange guidelines for the particular record type have already been developed in the IMEx consortium.
